Laboratory Medicine | Core Lab - Chemistry Section

(314) 454-6113

  • Dennis J. Dietzen, Ph.D., Director

The Chemistry Section of the Core Laboratory at St. Louis Children's Hospital offers specialized tests for diagnosis and therapy of pediatric diseases with an emphasis on minimizing specimen volume requirements.  Test menus are tailored to the pediatric and adolescent populations and include traditional chemistry testing, therapeutic drug monitoring, urine toxicology screening, and sweat electrolyte analysis (for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis). The laboratory is actively involved in research and development of new technologies and techniques of special interest in pediatric medicine. These include establishing population reference intervals (between-subject variability) and also deriving within-subject variability of laboratory parameters throughout childhood development.
